Stamford Police said they were called on Tuesday regarding the little boy found walking alone in a diaper and a T-shirt on Fairfield Avenue by a woman who took the boy back to her apartment, said Stamford Police Sgt. Robert Shawinsky.

A large group of police officers converged on the area to search for the child's home, knocking on doors and asking residents if anyone knew the boy.

After several hours with no success of finding his parents, police called the Department of Children and Families to have him placed in foster care until his real home could be found, Shawinsky said.

A couple of hours later, with still no report or frantic parent looking for the child, police went back on the street with photos of the boy and ran into a 14-year-old teen who told them he thought the boy was staying in an apartment and took them to the complex, he added.

In the apartment, police found the three other children, but not the mother, Lavoone Stain, 31, of Stamford.

In the meantime, an area resident had posted the child's photo on Facebook saying police were looking for his parents. Someone saw the post, recognized the child and contacted the mother and told her about the post.

She then contacted the police and said she was the mother, and that she lived someplace else and left the children at the apartment so she could run some errands, Shawinsky said.

Stain was arrested and charged with risk of injury and released. DCF later reunited her with her child.
